Ok, so on the weekend we went to Harrison Hot Springs which had on a/the (?) world tournament of sandcastles, which was particularly impressive, even from behind the fence (being too cheap to pay the entry fee!).
We also checked out the very cute township of Deep Cove, hiked up to Indian Arm lookout, and tried the famous Honey's Donuts (yes, a whole another category of donuty goodness - so much better than Tim Bits Rich! Although I must say they were pretty good).
Julias parents were visiting, they had a rental car so we went for a drive up to Harrisons Hot Springs. It is on the edge of lake so we went for a bit of a wander and came up to a nice outlook over the lake, beautiful.... Thermal pools etc, but the actual thermal spring is behind a wire fence... and it is all kinda manky.... (And coming from seeing Rotorua's thermal wonderland all the time, this had about as much steam as boiling a pot of water on your stove.... if you can turn it into a tourist attraction and make some money out of it
then either you're and incredibly good sales person.... or the locals are really desperate for steamed water...)
So as I said, we climbed up and saw a nice view of the lake...
Until you look down on the sewage treatment ponds! nice one Canada!
(There were some birds which Julia wanted to take a photo of...)
Anyway, in other news, if you read some of our other posts you would know that we finally got a bed after sleeping on thermarests for 3 weeks..... so we got to sleep on our lovely, soft, sleeping bag-less bed for one night.... and then my (jul) parents came up to see us (from Colorado where they were for a conference) and so we haven't slept on it since! My parents did however have a rental car, so we got to see a bit more of "Beautiful British Columbia"...
Hey guys! Sounds like you are having a wonderful time, wish i was there with you! Miss you both big time!!
ReplyDeleteDont be sad here is another comment I am sure you will have many more.
ReplyDeleteI know a sand castle lady in america. she spends the summer building sandcastles on the beach for the children we have been chatting together for years.
One year when we used to run creative art weekends at Mosaic we had a session on the beach down by rabitt island.
i could show you the photo's some time if you like.
Have a great day
